developed idea

New Opening Sequence Idea

When pitching our ideas to Matt and Luke with our original idea they gave us some pointers in the right direction. They didn’t like the idea of the women being perceived as weak or helpless so we decided to come up with a whole new idea based around one woman being strong and able to look after herself. We decided to keep the main character female and make her appear a lot more threatening. To do this we decided to make her able to protect herself, for example, in a fight.

Our thriller begins with the main character stepping out of her car and walking away, she is clutching some important looking files, and these files will be made prominent in the way that we shoot this, as we want the audience to take note. As she walks away a parking attendant shouts to her “Excuse me love, you can’t park there.” After saying this, the woman then turns around to find him standing right behind her, extremely close, holding a gun. The woman sees him, and smirks. At this point she begins to fight him and it becomes apparent to the audience that the man is after her important looking files. The two have a brutal fight, at which point the woman will appear to be winning, and the man losing. Eventually the woman does win, and walks away with her files safely in her hands.  As she walks away, the man is left on the ground, possibly passed out and covered in blood. The woman then gets out her phone and says “I’ve left another present for you in the car park.” We added this key word "another" so it seems as if this has happened before, this is not the first time the woman has had to protect herself. The other reason we added this at the end is so that as the opening sequence ends, it illustrates that there is more to the story than what we see in the opening sequence, as it could be easy to assume the rest of the movie would be boring after this one beginning scene.
